Registered nurses at MountainView Hospital in northern Las Vegas voted by 61 percent Thursday night to affiliate with the California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee. CNA/NNOC will represent 500 RNs at the hospital.
The MountainView RNs became the first RNs to unionize with the growing national nurses movement following formation of the largest RN union and professional association in U.S. history through the unification last month of CNA/NNOC with the United American Nurses and the Massachusetts Nurses Association.

Now, as part of a high-stakes battle in California, the union is urging federal officials to throw out petitions signed by tens of thousands of its own members who have asked to be represented by a rival upstart group.

Lee’s Summit Medical Center was wrong to withdraw recognition of its nurses’ union before the results of a decertification vote were certified, according to a finding by the regional office of the National Labor Relations Board.
NLRB Regional Director Daniel Hubbel said Wednesday that he hopes the hospital and the union can settle the unfair labor practices matter without going before an administrative law judge.

NORTH ADAMS -- Picket lines won't be forming outside of North Adams Regional Hospital on Saturday.
The Service Employees International Union 1199, which represents 174 health care workers at the hospital, called off Saturday's strike after reaching a "mutually satisfactory" contract with hospital executives at 9 p.m. Thursday, after 11 hours of negotiations.

On Nov. 20, the area’s nurses union gained a victory when nurses at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park voted to retain their bargaining agent.
The two-day election was a pivotal moment for the local nurses union. The vote was 133-103 to keep the bargaining representation, according to hospital and union officials. The hospital had more than 250 registered nurses eligible to vote.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- In a dramatic victory for the growing national movement of registered nurses, more than 300 RNs at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park have become the first Kansas RNs to join with their colleagues around the nation, by voting overwhelmingly to align with Nurses United, the local arm of National Nurses Organizing Committee/California Nurses Association, AFL-CIO (NNOC/CNA). The election was overseen by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), and means that Nurses United will represent the RNs.

POTTSTOWN PA – Unionized employees at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, who already voted to go on strike next month if they cannot agree with the hospital on terms of a new labor contract, say they’ll gather Thursday afternoon (Nov. 19, 2009) for a candlelight vigil in a Pottstown church to heighten public awareness of their cause.
