Union Supporters Lose Again…And Want More
Faced with a history of failure, many union members are led to believe they will gain by a new strike. They believe so strongly that they gamble all they have.
In this 10-minute DVD of three chapters covering 16-months, you see the actions of the service employees of two retirement communities in Hartford who wage a battle of diminishing returns.
The same employees who lost a contract struggle in strike actions two years prior reject a new 6-year contract offer. Then, in sympathy, 50 employees at another home owned by the same company also strike. And they demonstrate in such a manner that 22 religious and political leaders are handcuffed and arrested for civil disobedience.
In the third chapter you learn about how the replacement employees affected the strikers’ jobs. Hired to care for the residents, the replacement work staff left only 32 jobs available to the returning strikers. And 143 striking workers are placed on a re-call list to be rehired as position become available.
In spite of futility, the union local promises to picket until all former employees are re-hired. Meanwhile, Hartford estimates the cost to its citizens to be a $1 million before the dispute ends.
